Boat Flooring: Durable Options for Interior & Exterior Spaces

  • Lindsay Buzzo and Christy Lesseig

Published January 2017 | Updated January 2025

Finding exciting, durable flooring for your boat or yacht can be challenging. The right boat flooring must withstand constant exposure to the sea and sun and still maintain its beauty. There are many attractive alternatives to the typical marine carpet, especially with the rise of modern synthetic weaves and high-performance fibers on the market today.

Our boat flooring collection showcases durable synthetic weaves designed to withstand the elements, with options suited for both exterior decks and interior cabins. From woven vinyl to flat-weave polypropylene, each weave offers durability, comfort, and style.

We highly recommend that you order swatch samples before placing your order as much of our boat flooring products are cut to order.

Options for Outside Boat

For exterior applications—such as open decks, swim platforms, and seasonal outdoor areas—synthetics like woven vinyl perform exceptionally well. These materials are:

  • UV-resistant
  • Quick-drying
  • Easy to hose clean
  • Designed to stay stable in changing temperatures

They work best in situations where the flooring isn’t exposed to full sun every day of the year. Examples include seasonal boating, covered moorage, or any situation where the deck gets strong use during warmer months and then is protected when not in use. Woven vinyl offers a clean, modern look and excellent stability, making it one of the most dependable options for exterior surfaces.

Options for Inside Boat

Of course, all full-sun and partial-sun weaves can be used indoors. But if you are looking for a more formal or comfortable carpet for the interior cabin, you have more flexibility. For interior flooring, we recommend:

  • Flat weave polypropylene for a clean, modern look
  • Recycled PET or poly silk for soft, durable comfort
  • Wool carpet in a grand stateroom or refined interior space is the height of luxury.

Choosing the Right Material

To select the right weave:

  • Consider the level of sun exposure
  • Determine whether the installation is interior or exterior
  • Think about cleanability and how much moisture the space sees
  • Decide if you want a sleek, performance look or something softer and more residential

And because every boat is different, we always recommend ordering swatch samples before placing your flooring order.
