We get asked all of the time, “What is the best sisal weave for an indoor entrance mat?”
My first response to this question is that sisal absorbs moisture and is impossible to clean. I suggest choosing a darker color, so that stains won’t be quite as visible. If a customer is open to other options in the plant fiber genre, then I suggest our contract coir weave.
Coir is made from coconut husks and is well known for its durability. It’s also a bit more forgiving when it comes to stains. Natural sisal is made from the agave plant which is a coarser fiber and furthermore shows water and mud blemishes. All of this makes sisal fiber a challenge to keep clean.
I like to suggest what I have used for years, which is a fashion woven vinyl weave. It’s similar looking to sisal and is impervious to moisture therefore is very easy to clean with just a wet mop or vacuum.

I live near the beach and need a rug by the door in the hall. What is best? Sisal or seagrass for stains. Will not be getting wet. Just high traffic to the deck . Thank you
