The Infinity Edge: A Clean, Modern Finish for Custom Rugs

  • Teneille Tierce and Christy Lesseig

Published January 2018 | Updated March 2024

When you want a rug with a clean, modern profile, Infinity Edge is one of the most refined finishing options available. Instead of a serged or visible border, Infinity Edge creates a slim, continuous edge that lets the weave stand out while keeping the overall look minimal and sophisticated.

Below, we break down what Infinity Edge is, how it’s made, and when it’s the right choice for your custom rug.

How is the Infinity Edge constructed?

Unlike serging (where yarn wraps around the edge) or a border (where material is sewn around the perimeter), the Infinity Edge folds the rug edges neatly under and secures them to the back of the rug with adhesive. An attached non-slip rug pad is included and a cloth binding tape is applied to the underside. This engineering keeps the rug looking polished and adds stability while minimizing edge bulk.

Why the Infinity Edge Stands Out

Designers love this finish because it feels contemporary, works beautifully with many flat weaves, and delivers a crisp border without the visual weight of cloth binding. Plus, it’s ADA-compliant, perfect for retail store design, commercial properties, offices, and residential spaces.

Highlights include:

  • No visible binding or serging
  • Built with an attached rug pad
  • Clean, minimalist edge profile
  • Keeps attention on the weave, not the border
  • Works with many natural and synthetic flat weaves
  • Ideal for modern interiors and transitional spaces
  • ADA-compliant

Infinity Edge creates a look that feels current yet timeless—perfect for clients who want a custom rug that quietly elevates the room.

Is Infinity Edge right for your rug?

Like any border finish, the Infinity Edge has strengths and limitations.

Pros

  • Sleek, minimal edge with a contemporary profile
  • Lets the weave and texture take center stage
  • Excellent for modern, transitional, or minimalist interiors
  • Rug pad built in

→ Choose Infinity Edge if you want a quiet, modern finish that blends seamlessly into the rug.

Cons

  • Higher cost than standard serging or binding
  • Limited customization (no colorful or contrasting borders)
  • Not available on all weaves

→ Choose binding or serging if cost is a barrier or you want a more decorative border.

If Infinity Edge isn’t the right fit—or your chosen weave doesn’t qualify—you can explore other border finishes like serging or a cloth binding. Visit our guide:
